Sharon Chapman, New Executive Director
Kim Wohlford, lifelong Fort Smith community volunteer, became the new executive director
for Next Step Homeless Services on January 6, 2016. She is " passionate about serving
the area's homeless, especially our homeless veterans and families with children." Kim will
supervise the four professional case managers as they assist the 80-120 clients that Next
Step sees every day. Overseeing house managers for the three supportive homes that NSHS
operates is also part of her daily duties. "Next Step takes pride in partnering with the
Veteran's Administration via the Buddy Smith Home, a 16 bedroom transitional home, 10 beds
of which are reserved for homeless veterans." Homeless women and women with children
may be placed in Next Step's Esther House, which began in 2009.
Kim enjoys grant writing and public speaking, "because it gives me a chance to share the
many success stories of Next Step. My faith is a big part of why I want to help other people.
I think we were put here to help others... that is what I want to do." She encourages any community organization or person interested in learning more or in contributing to Next Step to contact her at kim@thenextstepfs.org, or call 479-242-5100.
