Calvin is an older army veteran who had never been diagnosed but sounded as if he suffered from significant PTSD symptoms. He lived under a bridge by the river and had been doing so for a good number of years. He had no income, no insurance, but somehow at least had his ID. Through his eagerness to make his life better, he began following through with all of the Next Step Case Manager’s referrals. He got established down at the social security office, got his Medicaid secured, and through the Guidance Center, began receiving psychiatric/counseling services.
Today he came in to shake the hand of Next Step’s case manager and thanked her for literally changing his
life. He is now on medication to help his mental health, he is 100% service-connected and lives in a house here in Fort Smith. He just bought his first car a couple of days ago.
The case manager was touched by him coming to see her and letting her know how well he has been doing. He hadn't been in our services in a good number of weeks (We were used to seeing him weekly) and the case
manager was growing concerned. Now we know he is just one of the many success stories at Next Step Homeless Services. Awesome outcome for a hardworking and caring individual that reached out for help and found it at Next Step!
